What is your favorite caliber

Let's hear it folks. what's your favorite caliber and why? You can pick one for hunting and one for plinking.
I'll start. For hunting I like a .54 as it is versatile. I know I've got enough gun with me to adequately handle any North American game with the proper loads. Makes it nice in that I don't have to change rifles if I want to deer hunt and elk hunt or whatever, should the opportunity arise.

For plinking I like my .40. You don't use much in the way of powder or lead.

They are ALL my favorite calibers!... I have a .45 flinter that I'd die before I gave up, and I have several .54s, and one .58... I love them all... I couldn't honestly say I prefer one over the other... but being a little more serious and thoughtful here, I guess I do shoot the .54s more than the others... I sure like the way it seems to have "heft" and they are accurate also...so just by the amount of shooting I do, an observer would have to state "that guy sure likes those 54s!" {P.S. - if it's a flinter, I don't care what caliber it is- I'd shoot it with enthusiasm)

If I had just one choice, it would be the .45, but I hope I never have to choose just one!!!!

Even though I use a 69 caliber along with a 45, 50 and 54, I like the 50 caliber. for some reason I like that bore diameter and it has dropped anything I have shot. I also think is just as versitile as the 54 caliber when round ball in not concidered. with a round ball then 54 caliber is it.

I love my .40 caplock for plinking and trail walks and have also used it with good results on deer, squirrels and grouse, then the .45 is not much different in performance and it is a flinter which I find a bit more interesting, the Lancaster swamp barreled .50 is a dream to shoot and offers nearly no recoil with the wide deep early style buttplate, the .54 plains style halfstock flinter has a little more poop for larger game it would be a tough choice between the last two if I draw and elk tag this year The .58 amd .62 are trade gun style smooth bores which is another world altogether, I have found myself picking one of those off the wall more and more often whether hunting, trail walks or just plain makin' smoke
I have J.B. .58 carolina smoothe rifle on the way that from the looks of the shape and lines may be a tough one to leave at home when going to the woods....... what was the question again???

My favorite hunting round is the .54 cal for the same reasons as your's, Mamaflinter. For plinking I prefer .36 cal. Very pleasant to shoot.

Right now i have a .50 cal. for big game hunting, but i am looking to replace it with a .54 for pretty much the same reasons. I like my .32 Crockett for small game, economical, accurate, and just plain fun to shoot.

My favorite big-game caliber is a split between a .54 and a .58, depending on the "lay of the land" and the size of the animal hunted.
My favorite small-game caliber is/was the .36, but a Crockett in .32 is gaining ground on my favorite small-game caliber. I was really surprised at the power the .32 has, especially with the small charges of powder it uses. A charge of 15 grains of FFFg Swiss will put a round ball through a 2X6 and keep on going at 40 yards. Talk about a "powder sipper".

My favorite all round calibre of all time is 50 for hunting and target. It seems to do well on all big game species I have hunted here in Nova Scotia.

Only own two muzzleloaders, both .54's, so that's my favorite! I go with conicals for deer and elk, and RB's for "fun shooting". Bill
